Díaz-Canel visits sites of social and economic importance

Diaz Canel“With these centers we have recovered a step in pedagogical training that had been lost, one that is critically important,” said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, while visiting the Rigoberto Batista Chapman Pedagogical School in the municipality of Puerto Padre, Las Tunas province.

During this tour, he interacted with administration, faculty members, and students, to learn more about the comprehensive preparation afforded teachers here.

The Cuban Vice President, also a Party Political Bureau member, next met with leaders of the Institute of Sports, Recreation, and Physical Education in the region, along with legendary athletes, emphasizing the importance of physical activity and sports in these tumultuous times.

After visiting a produce market and the Emiliano Salvador cultural center, Diaz-Canel spoke to the press, noting work done to revitalize the city to better meet the population’s needs and expectations, as well as efforts to preserve longstanding cultural traditions.

Accompanied by Ariel Santana Santiesteban, Party first secretary in the province, and Lilian González Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power, Diaz-Canel also reviewed progress being made on the construction of a solar photovoltaic park in Parada, outside of Puerto Padre.

Concluding his tour, Díaz-Canel visited the Antonio Guiteras sugar mill, where he noted the commitment of the entire workforce to meeting projections for the current harvest.

The Vice President likewise toured sites of social and economic importance in the province of Holguín, beginning at the Hereditary Ataxias Research and Rehabilitation Center, accompanied by Luis Torres Iribar, Party Central Committee member and first secretary in the province; and Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power.

The Hotel Saratoga, undergoing a capital renovation, provided an appropriate setting to discuss the development of tourism in Holguín, in which close to 46 million pesos are being invested this year. Cuba’s International Tourism Fair,

FITCuba-2017, will be held here this coming May 3-6.

Díaz-Canel also received information on steps being taken to promote the national mechanical industry in Holguín, including details regarding trial runs of the CCA 5000 sugar cane harvester, assembled here in a cooperative project with China.
