Havana hosts HostelCuba tourism services Fair

hostes turismoInterest in promoting tourism on the island was confirmed during the Technology and Services Fair HostelCuba 2016, held in Havana’s Pabexpo exposition center.

Dedicated to tourism services, the Fair is a new initiative organized by Spanish company Fira Barcelona and Cuba’s Pabexpo, which aims to strengthen the development of tourism on the island.

During the inauguration of the Fair, May 17, Cuba’s Minister of Tourism Manuel Marrero, toured the exposition space, accompanied by first deputy and deputy ministers of the sector Alexis Trujillo and Mayra Álvarez, respectively.

Fira Barcelona International President, Ricard Zapatero, as well as the President of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Orlando Hernández together with sector directors and representatives, also toured the vicinity.

Likewise, officials participated in business forums and reviewed the offers by the 45 foreign companies presenting their products, equipment and services at the Fair.
Alexis Trujillo noted that the event features important specialized equipment, catering above all to the hotel industry.

He stated that the world today demands technology able to guarantee secure, professional, sustainable actions linked to the tourist sector.

According to the first deputy minister, the Fair took place in a positive environment, with sights set on the successful development of tourism in Cuba.

The Mintur official reported that 108,000 new rooms will be opened in Cuba through 2030, which must be accompanied by the development of local tourist industries.

Trujillo noted the benefits forthcoming for the country with prestigious companies keen to establish businesses in the sector.

For his part Zapatero, stated that his company’s objective is to help organize various specialized fairs in Cuba.

Fira Barcelona International is one of the world’s leading trade fair organizations, whose events make an important economic impact.

The company’s President described HostelCuba 2016 as the first of many events they would like to hold in Cuba, a country with the potential to become one of the main sites of professional events in the world, according to Zapatero.

Furthermore, the official expressed his willingness, together with that of the Palco events group, to drive the initiative forward, always with the help and support of Cuba’s ministries.

In this regard, the President of Cuba’s Chamber of Commerce explained that business forums were held during the event in order to provide more information regarding products and services presented at the Fair.

He highlighted the large representation of Cuban entities at HostelCuba 2016, reflecting participants’ positive response to this new type of trade fair, which came to a successful end May 19.
