A new record was set on Saturday, September 12 in Havana, as the temperature reached a maximum of 38.2 degrees Celsius at the Casablanca weather station, surpassing the previous record of 37 degrees, on April 26 of this year.
Speaking to Granma, Armando Caymares, of the National Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, noted that Saturday also saw records for the month of September in Indio Hatuey at 36.9°C and Jovellanos at 36.5°C, both in the province of Matanzas.
As previously noted, up until August 31, 2015 has been ranked as the hottest year in Cuba since 1951. Forecasts suggest that the heat will continue throughout September, with above normal maximum and minimum temperatures across the three regions of the country.
