Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory to Receive Honor Award in Cuba

chaikovskiThe Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory today will receive the Honor Award of the most important musical event in the Caribbean country: Cubadisco-2015, during the closing ceremony of this year”s edition.

The outstanding Russian school of music in which Tchaikovsky himself was a teacher in the nineteenth century, granted scholarships in the second half of the twentieth century to talented Cuban artists.

In the same school where Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Scriabin, Aram Khachaturian, Mstislav Rostropovich and Rodion Shchedrin studied, the Cubans Guido Lopez Gavilan, Teresa Junco and Frank Fernandez were also trained, just to mention some examples.

Cubadisco-2015 was dedicated to Russia as guest of honor and the symphonic and choral music.

One of the highlights of this Cubadisco was the inaugural concert by the Symphony Orchestra of Minnesota, USA, together with pianist Frank Fernandez, the National Choir of Cuba and Vocal Leo, which took place on 15 May at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater.

The same stage will host on Sunday the closing ceremony with the performances by the National Symphony Orchestra, pianist Aldo Lopez-Gavilan, 2001-Cubadisco Award, and the National Concert Band.
