Stronger Cuba-Russia Strategic Links after Vicepresidents Visit

cuba-rusiaCuban Vicepresident Ricardo Cabrisas concludes today after a week of fruitful talks and tangible results in the purpose of relaunching the strategic association with Russia, in a comprehensive and long-term relation.

Cabrisas headed a ministerial delegation to the special sesión of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic, commercial, scientific and technical collaboration that ended in the signing of ten agreements in different áreas.

During his stay, Cabrisas was received by President of the Federation Council (Senate), Valentina Matvienko, Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and also talked with Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov and the Minister of Defense Serguei Shoigu, as well as with president of Tatarstan, Ruslan Minnijanov.

Cuban Vicepresident described as satisfactory the work forum held last Wednesday in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan, which became a historic landmark for the definitive relaunching of economic, commercial and financial relations that stagnated over the last years, despite the intense dialogue in political and diplomatic interaction between Moscow and Havana.

In fact, trade turnover dropped significantly, fundamentally due to the exhaustion of financing sources, despite Cuba having complied with her obligations since 2008, pointed Cabrisas.

Considered strategic sectors, agreements signed include electric energy, petroleum, Steel industry and transport, in the air, railroad and automotive fields.

The parts advanced also in the normalization of financial relations, to make this a true booster of trade and the flow of investment between both nations.

As closure of the Special Session, copresidents of the Commission, Ricardo Cabrisas and Vicepresident Dmitri Rogozin, signed the final Act and Joint Declaration on the improvement of that working mechanism between the governments of Russia and Cuba.

During the ceremony, an agreement was also signed for cooperation between the factory

Uralvagonzabod, the group of steel and mechanical industry GESIME and the Railroad Union of Cuba.

Another agreement signed was between Russian INTERRAO-SRL and Cuban enterprise

Energoimport for the negotiation of a contract for the construction of four new generating units in the thermoelectric plants of Maximo Gomez and East Havana.

The parts signed a contract for the modernization and expansion of steel and long sheet production at the Jose Marti or Antillana de Acero

The GESIME group signed a protocol of intention with the Kamaz company, specialized in the production of automotive vehicles.

An agreement was signed for credit limit with the Russian Insurance Agency of credit to exports and investment, was signed separately by the National Bank of Cuba, Trade International and Foreign Bank, respectively.

The Russian Bank of Development and Foreign Economic Activity (Vneshekonombank), the company Iliushin Finance Technik Ltd. and Cuban company Aviaimport signed a memorándum of understanding.

The Cuban portfolio of foreign investment opportunities was presented in Moscow and Kazan, opening a new chapter for the effective participation of Russia and its businesspeople in order to make the strategic association of Russian-Cuban links tangible.
