National Mourning in Cuba for death of President Hugo Chavez

Havana, March 8, (RHC), — With a National Mourning and a 21-gun salute will continue today in Cuba the tribute to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frías, who died Tuesday in Caracas.

The 21-gun salute will be performed at 10:00 AM local time in the fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña in Havana, the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces said.

The country also declared National Mourning on Friday, during which all public entertainment and festive activities in the Caribbean nation will be suspended.

Both provisions are part of the tribute that pays the people and government of the island to the Venezuelan statesman and close friend. The day before, thousands marched in across Cuban cities to honor the iconic leader, who they regard as a brother.
