Chamber Music Festival dedicated to Cuban pianist and composer Chucho Valdés

Cuban maestro Leo Brouwer announced that the Chamber Music Festival scheduled for September 30th through October 7th will be dedicated to Chucho Valdés on his 70th birthday.

Chucho is simply great as a pianist, composer and person, he deserves this homage and much more,” said Brower in Havana, adding that he has admired and worked with the great Cuban jazz musician for 50 years.

As part of the tribute, the piece for piano and wind quartet La fiesta de la luz (The party of light), especially dedicated to Valdés, will be premiered at the Minor Basilica of the Saint Francis of Assisi concert hall on October 6th, along with the performance of Ernán López Nussa and other Cuban guests musicians, who will recreate tunes and pieces composed by the honored artist.

Born in Quivicán on October 9th, 1941, Chucho Valdés was a founding member of the emblematic Modern Music Orchestra, the famous Irakere group and has won several Grammy Awards.
