U.S. government sanctions against Fincimex hurt the Cuban people

The inclusion of Fincimex on the U.S. State Department’s list of restricted Cuban entities last June, as well as the Treasury Department’s modifications to regulations for the control of Cuban assets announced on Friday, October 23, will prevent remittances to Cuba through U.S. companies with general licenses, directly harming the Cuban people and their relatives in the United States.

Cuba embraces Vietnam

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel sent messages of condolences to the Vietnamese people in the wake of damage caused by recent storms.

Prensa Latina reports that the Cuban leaders expressed their concern upon hearing news of damages caused by the heavy rains and floods in Vietnam’s central provinces.

With Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on hand, the V Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power in its IX Legislature was held yesterday, October 28. In his closing remarks the President noted the high level of analysis and debate of the four laws approved by deputies, and the value of these texts which will strengthen the institutional order of the country, including the Foreign Service.

National Assembly approves four new laws

Four bills were analyzed by National Assembly of People’s Power deputies and approved during the Fifth Ordinary Period of Sessions – which took place on October 28th – after a discussion in which a variety of questions were addressed and modifications proposed regarding the legal issues in these documents. The session was held in an atypical fashion given the current epidemiological circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 epidemic, with only deputies from Havana and those representing other territories who reside in the capital.

During the formal presentation of the pro tempore presidency to Costa Rica, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez urged cooperation and multilateralism to achieve sustainable development and address inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean.
