Díaz-Canel: Today we can tell our people and the world that Cuba has grown

asamblea sesionesWith Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, and President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on hand, the V Ordinary Period of Sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power in its IX Legislature was held yesterday, October 28.

In his closing remarks the President noted the high level of analysis and debate of the four laws approved by deputies, and the value of these texts which will strengthen the institutional order of the country, including the Foreign Service.

In addition to the ratification of these Decree-Laws and decisions made by the Council of State, approved was the liquidation of the State Budget for the year 2019, a year marked by strong financial tensions that imposed the need to boost tax revenues, as well as rigorous application of the law. Equally transcendental were deputies’ analysis and support of the economic-social strategy, presented Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning Alejandro Gil Fernández, marked by the exceptional situation we are living and the U.S. government’s tightening of the blockade.

National Assembly and Council of State President Esteban Lazo Hernández opened the day recalling the 61st anniversary of the physical disappearance of Camilo Cienfuegos, the Hero of Yaguajay, and called for a moment of silence as a posthumous tribute to deputies Antonio Alberto Pérez Santos, of Remedios; Yamilka Acosta Álvarez, of Bejucal; and Eusebio Leal Spengler, of Habana Vieja.
