The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

International Conference on Political Communication in the Digital Sphere Begins in Havana
The first International Conference “New Scenarios of the Political Communication in the digital sphere” was inaugurated this morning with the participation of 100 experts and delegates from more than 30 countries. With representation from all regions of the world and summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this international conference aims at generating a debate on the development of the communications and information technologies and their impact on the system of international relations, as well as in the political communication in the digital sphere.

U.S. State Department identifies Posada Carriles as planner of 1976 terrorist attack
A declassified 1976 State Department document identifies Luis Posada Ca rriles as the most likely author of a terrorist attack on a Cuban airliner that year which took the lives of all 76 passengers aboard.
The memorandum, released June 3, illustrates the department’s concern regarding ties between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and extremist Cuban émigré groups in South Florida.

US New York Cosmos Soccer Team Expected in Cuba
The US soccer team New York Cosmos will arrive in Cuba on Sunday to play friendly games with the Cuban team at Havana’s Pedro Marrero Stadium on Thursday. Accompanying the New York club is Edson Arantes Dos Nascimento “Pele, the King of Football”, who will visit Cuba for the first time. Cosmos will be the first professional soccer team from the United States to play in Cuba since 1978, although that country’s national team played a qualifier for the World Cup in Havana in 2008.

Issued on March 9, President Obama’s Executive Order tagging Venezuela as “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the US national security” and declaring “a national emergency to deal with this threat” caused justified alarm and widespread rejection throughout the Continent and beyond. It was not the first time that Washington used a language as arrogant as it is irrational.

Cuba and the United States to Discuss Health and Law Enforcement Issues
Cuba and the United States will continue bilateral talks on a technical level, particularly on health and law enforcement, Foreign Ministry official Josefina Vidal announced in Washington at the end of the third round of negotiations to re-establish diplomatic relations.

UN Secretary-General recognizes Vietnam as Outstanding
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recognized Vietnam as a responsible and active member, during a visit which concluded here today inaugurating the Green House number one of the world Organization. Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Pham Binh Minh, he opened the doors to a building designed by the hosts to bring together all the UN agencies represented in the country and express its multilateral commitment.

Cuba and the US, progress amid differences
Marked by deep differences and more than half a century of estrangement, Cuba and the United States are moving towards the resumption of diplomatic relations and cooperation on issues of common interest. The announcement of the Presidents Raul Castro and Barack Obama, on 17 December, to work according to the bilateral approach opened a new era between the two countries, waiting step to reach the normalization of ties. What we have done in these last four months can be considered an improvement, said to Cuban journalists here the head of the delegation of the island to Havana-Washington talks to restore diplomatic ties, Josefina Vidal.
