President Dwight D. Eisenhower broke diplomatic relations with Cuba on January 3, 1961. Fifty-four years later, on Monday the 20th of July, the United States and Cuba will advance toward normalization of diplomatic relations. Presumably, the US will no longer treat Cuba as its enemy and treat the island simply as its next-door neighbor. Jeffrey DeLaurentis will act as the official spokesperson to present a letter by President Barack Obama to Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers regarding the reestablishment of diplomatic relations and opening of embassies in both countries. Cuban Foreign Minister Meets with US Senators

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met in Havana on Saturday with US Republican Senators Jeff Flake, Pat Robert and Susan Collins. The meeting between the head of Cuban diplomacy and the US lawmakers was held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry. The senators, who arrived in Cuba on Friday, visited the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) and the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute.

CELAC-EU Condemn Blockade to Cuba and Support Colombian Peace Talks

Rejection to the US blockade against Cuba and support to dialog in Colombia were among the main topic in the inaugural address of the Summit of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the European Union (EU). During the inauguration ceremony, European Council President Donald Tusk, announced the blocs decision to promote a trust fund to support post-conflict actions. Tusk praised the peace dialog being carried out by the government of President Juan Manuel Santos and the Revolutionary Forces of Colombia.
