The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Díaz-Canel exchanges with local authorities and workers on a visit to the pine town of Cocodrilo
The first secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, visits the coastal town of Cocodrilo, in the south of the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, on Monday morning. On Twitter, the president reported that “Today we will be on the Isle of Youth, another of the territories affected by #HurricaneIan. The recovery there is progressing rapidly. Much of its electrical service and communications are restored. We have to work hard to rebuild the houses.”

Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martín checks recovery actions in Vueltabajo
With the presence of Army Corps General Ramón Espinosa Martín, at the head of the recovery actions in the Pinar del Río province, the member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Félix Duarte, and Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca , the Provincial Defense Council met this Saturday, led by its president Yamilé Ramos Cordero. Nearly 79,000 customers without electricity in Puerto Rico, days after the impact of Fiona
Some 79,000 homes and businesses were still without power in Puerto Rico on Saturday, nearly two weeks after Hurricane Fiona hit the island, data showed.
After wreaking havoc in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, Fiona turned north and hit eastern Canada on September 24, also leaving more than a third of Nova Scotia without power. Nova Scotia Power, a unit of Canadian energy company Emera Inc., said about 78,200 customers there were still without power as of early Thursday.

Confirmed in Florida, USA, 23 deaths from the passage of Hurricane Ian
The authorities of Florida, United States, confirmed this Friday that at least 23 people died as a result of Hurricane Ian, a figure that could still increase considerably. US media show higher balances citing county officials, who report up to 45 deaths due to the passage of the storm. The official figure of 23 deceased was published this Friday by the Florida Medical Examiners Commission, which also reported that the victims are between 22 and 92 years old, and most of them showed signs of drowning.

From the Fraternidad neighborhood, in Mantilla: “What I experienced in a protest”

Hurricane Ian affected 40 percent of base stations and 7 percent of telephone services in Cuba
The Telecommunications Company of Cuba S.A (Etecsa) reported that recovery work continued with the execution of cleaning tasks, restoration of cables and more than 1,200 poles affected by the force of the winds and fallen trees. They pointed out that, after the passage of Hurricane Ian, more than 100,000 interrupted fixed services were registered, representing 15% of the total telephone lines of the five provinces that were under the influence of this meteorological event.

Cuba votes in referendum its new Family Code
This September 25, Cuba submits the new Family Code to a popular referendum, a step that will decide on the entry into force of this important legislation. From seven in the morning, the more than 24,000 polling stations in the country will open their doors in a civic and democratic process that constitutes an unprecedented event: never before has a law been submitted to the will of the people, who will have the last word (Yes or No), which as simple as it may seem, has great significance for the present and future of the nation.
