The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Raúl receives Deputy Prime Minister of Laos
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, received compañero Thongloun Sisoulith, politburo member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, who is currently on an official visit to the island, on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 17. Within a fraternal atmosphere, Raúl and Sisoulith recalled key moments of the historic relationship that binds the two countries and their peoples’ struggle for sovereignty and independence.

Cuban President Calls for Constructive Criticism
President Raul Castro called for the constant use of constructive criticism in the context of the transformations being carried out today in the Caribbean island. During a meeting of the Council of Ministers, the statesman reiterated the call to discuss in depth each measure and analyze everything done so far, to determine the small mistakes and correct them.

French President concludes successful visit to Cuba
Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz bid President François Hollande farewell at José Martí International Airport, yesterday May 12, thus concluding the French leader’s visit which began May 10. The trip marked an important milestone as the first by a French head of state to Cuba. After conversing briefly within the airport treminal, Raúl accompanied Hollande to his plane, which proceeded to Haiti, the President’s last stop on his Caribbean tour. Hollande thanked the Cuban leader for the “very useful” visit and predicted that many other Presidents would soon visit the island.

Process to Restore Ties With US Is Going Well, Says Raul Castro
Cuban President Raul Castro said today that the process of re-establishing ties with the United States is going well, but we are setting ”our own pace”. Castro said that US President Barack Obama has the executive power to submit to the Congress – as he already did- the order to exclude Cuba from the State Sponsors of Terrorism List. The deadline to deal with that matter is met in a few days, said Castro referring to Obama’s decision to exclude Cuba from the list, and announced that then they will move on to appoint each country ambassadors.

Raúl to Medvedev: “I could not miss this celebration”
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz met Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on May 6, whom he thanked for the invitation to participate in the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism in WWII, to be held on Saturday in this capital. The Cuban President noted that he could not miss the celebration due to the great friendship that has always united the island and Russia, “a friendship that still exists because there is a mutual admiration between our peoples.”

President Raul Castro Pays Tribute to Algerian Martyrs
Cuban President Raul Castro paid tribute on Sunday to the Martyrs of the Algerian Revolution at the monument in their honor in this capital. After inspecting the detachment of honor of the Republican Guard, the Cuban head of State laid a wreath at the foot of the stone plaque that honors nearly two million Algerians, including civilians, who died in unequal combats against the French colonial Army, the official news agency APS reported.
