Older adults living alone, individuals with disabilities, the mentally ill and persons with chronic diseases, mothers of young children, pregnant women, vulnerable families… all have received special support from the Prevention, Assistance and Social Work Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), during these difficult times. Among measures adopted, to address COVID-19, were the provision of differentiated attention by social workers.

Amidst the battle Cuba is waging to control the expansion of Covid-19 in the country, the Council of Ministers, headed by President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, met, as they do every month, to make decisions on the economic and social life of the nation. The highest body of the Cuban government approved the creation of a task force charged with developing new measures to strengthen efforts to combat the new coronavirus.

No Covid-19 in Cuba yet, as preventative measures and preparation continue

The effectiveness of measures Cuba has taken for the prevention and control of Covid-19 was recognized yesterday in a meeting with the highest authorities of all the country’s provinces and the special municipality Isle of Youth, led by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa. According to Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal Miranda, the island continues to have no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus that has already affected 104 nations.

Cuba working for longer and healthier lives

Geneva, Cuba on Wednesday defended health care as a basic human right and expressed concern for the financial, food, energy and environmental crisis gripping the world. Addressing the 64th Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), Cuban Deputy Health Minister Jose Angel Portal stated that the current international situation is affecting many countries.
