Venezuela celebrates 205 years since the Declaration of Independence

Venezuela declared its independence from Spain 205 years ago, with a statement adopted by a congress of Venezuelan provinces on July 5, 1811. The signing of this document was the continuation of the popular movement initiated on April 19, 1810, by the Municipal Council of Caracas.

Vilma Espín, a role model for Cuban women

Vilma Espín Guillois, born in Santiago de Cuba 86 years ago, on April 7, 1930, was characterized by her human qualities, including strong family principles, a sense of justice and condemnation of lies, banality and superficiality (1). Despite her comfortable background, she rejected the social situation she witnessed in Cuba, wondering, “Why are there beggars on the street?” and questioning as to how to solve the problem (2).

During the event held at the monument to the heroine of the Sierra and the underground, Teresa Amarelle, secretary general of the FMC and member of the Party Central Committee, emphasized the contributions of Celia, whose values and efforts constitute an example for Cuban girls, adolescents and women of today.
