The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

High of 38.2 degrees in Havana!
A new record was set on Saturday, September 12 in Havana, as the temperature reached a maximum of 38.2 degrees Celsius at the Casablanca weather station, surpassing the previous record of 37 degrees, on April 26 of this year. Speaking to Granma, Armando Caymares, of the National Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology, noted that Saturday also saw records for the month of September in Indio Hatuey at 36.9°C and Jovellanos at 36.5°C, both in the province of Matanzas.

The birds of the northern keys of Cuba
Camagüey archipelago, the largest group of islets surrounding the island of Cuba, stretches some 465 kilometers along the northern coast of the central region of the country. The string of keys endowed with natural beauty and parallel to the coast was named Jardines del Rey by Diego Velázquez in the early sixteenth century, in honor of the then King of Spain, Ferdinand the Catholic.

Ensuring sustainable economic and social progress
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez presided over the opening ceremony of the 10th International Convention on the Environment and Development, being held in Havana’s Convention Center until July 10. While opulence and poverty coexist, while a minority holds the resources that hundreds of millions of people lack, there will be no genuinely viable options for progress, said Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, Cuban minister of Science, Technology and Environment.
