The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba and Austria sign bilateral agreement on Cuban debt
Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president, held a working meeting in the afternoon of Wednesday, March 2, with Rudolf Scholten, director general of the Austrian Control Bank. The two undertook a comprehensive analysis of the current situation and the outlook for economic, commercial and financial relations between the two countries, considering the results of the Cuba-Austria Business Forum, held earlier that the day.

A week of celebrations for the Habano
A haze of smoke still hangs in the air following the celebrations of the 18th Habano Festival, the largest international event for enthusiasts of the best tobacco in the world. The festival brought more than 2,000 participants from over 60 countries to the Cuban capital, from February 29 to March 4.

Cuba regains control of Havana Club rum brand in US
The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted the brand to Cuba export earlier in the week in a case that was contested by Bacardi, Xinhua reported.
While Bacardi was born in Cuba, it has been based in Bermuda since abandoning the island in 1959. With most Cuban products banned from being sold in the US, Bacardi has marketed a Puerto Rico-made rum under the Havana Club name.

Air France-KLM consolidates operations in Cuba
The airline Air France-KLM projects ending the year with a 15% increase in passenger transportation, consolidating its position as the principal carrier between Cuba and Europe, Africa and Asia, reported Antoine Cros, general manager for Cuba and the Dominican Republic. During 2014, he told the press, “More than 400,000 passengers were transported, a figure which confirms our participation in the increase seen in tourism to the island, and demonstrates the positive state of relations between the company and Cuban authorities in the leisure industry and the aeronautical sector.”

Hotel Iberostar Varadero expands options for winter season
The Iberostar Varadero Hotel, located on the Hicacos Peninsula in the province of Matanzas, is offering tourists more attractions this winter season, with improvements which include expansion of the spa and new services for vacationing families. Among the new options is a “bar” specifically for children located near the water park which young visitors always enjoy, added to please clients of all ages, as is expected of a five-star hotel.
