An artistic ode to the national anthem

An artistic gala full of allusions to the nation’s roots was held in this city as part of the 11th Festival of Cuban Identity (Fiesta de la Cubanía), with a special rendition of Cuba’s national anthem, the military march “La Bayamesa”, first performed on October 20, 1868. A Resolution on “ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” will once again be presented to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 27 October 2015. There is a special significance about bringing the Resolution, overwhelmingly endorsed by the UNGA for 23 consecutive years, to the attention of the world body this time. The brutal U.S. blockade against Cuba must come to an end, Venezuela’s Ambassador to the UN, Rafael Ramírez, stated this Monday, adding that the international community will undoubtedly support this cause yet again this year. Speaking to Prensa Latina regarding the upcoming vote in the UN General Assembly on Cuba’s resolution seeking an end to the blockade, scheduled for October 27, the diplomat noted both his country’s and the world’s condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial sanctions imposed for over half a century on the island.

Production of crude oil reaches 1 million tons in western Cuba

Cuba’s Western Oil Drilling and Extraction Enterprise reached 1 million tons of crude oil thus far this year, a result of investments undertaken and the use of new technology. The goal is now to reach the remaining 30,000 ton target by the end of December, as outlined in the company’s technical economic plan. Meeting this objective will see the company celebrate 16 consecutive years producing over 1 million metric tons of crude oil.

Yesterday, October 19, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president and co-president of the Cuban delegation to the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission began a visit in Moscow with a meeting with Sergei Glazyev, advisor to the President of the Russian Federation on topics relating to Eurasian integration, during which the two officials discussed the possibility of Cuba joining the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer nation.
