Cuba will vaccinate its entire population against COVID-19 in 2021
The Party and government’s strong political will has made this possible, along with the impressive work of our scientists who have again reiterated that Cuba will be among the first countries in the world to vaccinate its entire population in 2021, despite the tightening of the U.S. blockade of the island over the past 12 months, stated Dr. Eduardo Martínez Díaz, president of the BioCubaFarma state pharmaceutical enterprise group, on his Twitter account.

Cuba prepares to protect Covid-19 convalescents
Cuba is currently advancing in the development of a clinical trial in patients convalescing from Covid-19, who had a mild clinical record or were asymptomatic. ‘The clinical development program of Soberana 01 (vaccine candidate against Covid-19) includes the assessment in convalescents, a population that has not been in the target of vaccines,’ highlighted on Twitter the director of Research of the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, Dagmar Garcia.

Cuba reports 567 new Covid-19 cases and 647 recoveries
Cuba on Monday reported 567 new Covid-19 cases, 647 medical discharges and three deaths in the last 24 hours. With this data, the total number of confirmed cases in Cuba rose to 21,828 and recoveries increased to 16,034 since March 2020, Dr. Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), said. The expert noted that this is a positive balance due to the high number of medical discharges.

Soberana 02 clinical trials expanded
Expanded phase II B clinical trials of Cuba’s anti-COVID-19 candidate vaccine Soberana 02 with volunteers between 19 and 80 years of age, began at the 19 de Abril and No.1 Polyclinics, in the Havana municipalities of Plaza de la Revolución and La Lisa, respectively. For the purpose of evaluating reactions, safety and immunogenicity of the candidate, created by the Finlay Vaccine Institute, volunteers will receive two doses of the drug, administered intramuscularly.

Trump Administration Announces More Measures Against Cuba A Few Days Before Leaving the White House
The Administration of outgoing President Donald Trump announced on Friday sanctions against the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) of Cuba, one more of the unilateral measures recently adopted against the island. Without presenting any evidence, the pretext for this action is the alleged responsibility of the minister of that portfolio, General Lázaro Álvarez Casas, in alleged violations of human rights, a pretext that the US Government uses repeatedly to justify its actions against countries that do not they surrender to its dictates.

Six hundred and fifty new Covid-19 cases reported in Cuba
Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology for the Ministry of Health of Cuba, reported 650 new cases of Covid-19 during his daily press briefing on the course of the pandemic in the country. Duran explained that 10,946 tests were processed in the 18 Molecular Biology laboratories in Cuba on Saturday. Forty-six patients are in intensive care, of them 11 in critical condition and 35 reported in serious condition. Regarding pediatric cases, four children are in serious condition but stable, and there is one infant in critical condition.

Cuba maintains tourist activity despite Covid-19 restrictions
Cuba maintains tourist activity with strict hygiene and safety protocols, despite restrictions in the country’s territories, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases. The Cuban Ministry of Tourism released an update of the health protocol to continue operations in the country’s major destinations.
According to the measures, posted on the Ministry’s website, it is essential that international travelers produce a negative PCR test done 72 hours before arriving in Cuba.

President Diaz-Canel says Cuban doctors dismantle US campaigns
President Miguel Diaz-Canel stressed on Saturday that the work of Cuban internationalist doctors dismantles the smear campaigns promoted by the United States. During a virtual meeting with members of the Henry Reeve Contingent who returned home recently, the president described Washington’s efforts to denigrate Cuba’s health collaboration as deceitful, slanderous and threatening. He also highlighted the important work of solidarity and cooperation that the Cuban brigades do in other parts of the world.
