The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Determined to preserve the freedom won

Sixty-three years later, the decision of the Cuban people, progenitor of the men who landed on December 2, 1956, to bring definitive independence to the homeland, remains the same: to be free or die in defense of what has been won. Thus, the historic day could not pass without a tribute to those who made the dream possible, from the first – Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Mariana Grajales, José Martí and Fidel Castro – to the hundreds of humble men and women who have given their lives to gain a republic, with all and for the good of all.

Across the waves, a ship of hope

With the Granma yacht’s landing, December 2, 1956, following its epic crossing from Mexico, those aboard would become the first combatants in the final stage of Cuba’s liberation struggle, and the date would mark the founding of the Revolutionary Armed Forces. Freedom is a human right, but on this island, it is a natural condition. Those who inhabit Cuba, and honor it as their homeland, see its infinite and indomitable destiny as free, like the sea.

Anniversary of the Granma landing celebrated in Santiago de Cuba

The 62nd anniversary of the Granma expedition’s landing was commemorated with a tribute to the Revolutionary Armed Forces in Santiago de Cuba’s Santa Ifigenia cemetery where floral wreaths were placed in José Martí’s mausoleum in the name of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba; President of the Councils of State and Ministers Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; and the Cuban people.

An invaluable arm of our education

An unexpected shine appears in the eyes of its first students, when they observe the young soldiers now attending the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) military academy, the General Antonio Maceo Escuela Interarmas. Their pride in being part of this indispensable arm of Cuba’s educational system moved them yesterday, February 7, during the commemoration and military ceremony held on the occasion of the school’s 55th anniversary.

Putin Prioritizes Keeping the Pace in Modernization of Armed Forces

Staring today, Russia is working with prioritized indicators to modernize its armed forces types, as directed by President Vladimir Putin at a meeting yesterday with senior military and industry representatives. During the meeting held in Sochi, the president said that towards the end of this summer every military body must meet the planned parameters of modernization of its armament, and defined the corresponding figures, according to the TASS news agency.
