The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

ICAP: The continuation of a dream
The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) celebrated its 55th anniversary with a cultural-political act presided by member of the Party Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Relations, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, member of the Central Committee Secretariat and head of its International Relations Department, while the Five Heroes of the Republic of Cuba were also in attendance.

Doctors of yesterday, today and tomorrow
Fidel’s name was repeated often during celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the first graduation of doctors and dentists trained by the Revolution, who received their diplomas atop Mt. Cuba in the Sierra Maestra, November 14, 1965.
Today, many health care professionals remember the interest shown by the leader of the Cuban Revolution in their studies, always alert to their living conditions, and those of classrooms.

Nationalization means to put under the nation’s control
The first laws approved by the revolutionary government had little impact on private industrial interests, and measures adopted to provide social benefits contributed to the prosperity of their businesses, since elevating the standard of living of all Cubans created more domestic demand. Despite this reality, the Cuban industrial bourgeoisie did not support the revolutionary measures which actually favored their interests.

The work of many hands
Thus in August 1965, the National Observatory, run by the Revolutionary Navy at that time, became part of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba (ACC). Days later, Dr. Antonio Nuñez Jiménez, president of the ACC, signed a resolution which created the Institute of Meteorology, through the merger of staff from the former Observatory and those belonging to the Meteorological Department created by this body 15 months earlier.

Raúl congratulates Cuban women on FMC’s 55th anniversary
President Rául Castro sent heartfelt congratulations to women across the island on the 55th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women’s founding (FMC). His message was conveyed by the organization’s secretary general, Teresa Amarelle Boué, also a member of the Party Central Committee, during the national celebration of the anniversary in the province of Granma, which was chosen as the event’s site in recognition of the FMC’s accomplishments in the region.

Cuban women on all fronts
José Ramón Machado Ventura, Party Central Committee second secretary and a Council of Ministers vice president, presented the awards and emphasized that Cuban women “must be, and are, on all fronts in our country.”
The Distinction was granted by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), on the occasion of its 55th anniversary, to deserving individuals based on their professional and social careers; their ethical, revolutionary values; their exemplary conduct in areas such as government, the judiciary, science, production, the arts, culture and sports.

Presidents of Venezuela and Nicaragua praise example of Fidel
Venezuelan President, Ni colás Maduro, praised historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro’s work in defense of humanity’s just causes, according to the Ministry of Communication and Information’s website. During his television program En Contacto con Maduro (In contact with Maduro), broadcast every Tuesday evening, the Head of State called the Cuban leader the “revolutionary commander of Latin America and the Caribbean.”
