The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba and Chad strengthen bilateral relations
”I am sure that your visit will contribute to advancing bilateral relations,” stated Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Relations, Bruno Rodrí guez on receiving his counterpart from the Republic of Chad, Moussa Faki Ma hamat, at the Ministry headquarters, October 7. Bruno Rodríguez noted that relations with Chad and the African continent are a priority for the nation, and expressed thanks for the country’s enduring solidarity and willingness to continue developing ties with the island.

Cabrisas meets with Slovakian Prime Minister
Today, October 8, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, a Council of Ministers vice president, received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovakia, His Excellency Mr. Robert Fico, who is making an official visit to the country, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, the honorable Miroslav Lajcak; and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the honorable Peter Kazimir, as well as other government representatives.

President of International Judo Federation expects excellent Grand Prix in Cuba
The President of the International Judo Federation (IJF), Marius Vizer, expressed his confidence that the Grand Prix of the discipline, scheduled to take place in Havana, in January, 2016, will be excellent. We are currently specifying the tasks to be carried out at every stage of organizing the competition, but we aren’t worried as we are sure that it will be a great event and are confident in the abilities of the Cuban organizing committee, he noted.

The FAO recognizes the Cuban government for efforts toward food security
According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), “Cuba is one of its best students,” Theodor Friedrich, representative of the international organization on the island, told reporters this Wednesday in Havana. He noted the policies of the Cuban government in terms of food security and the design of public policies for social protection.

Cuba and U.S. discuss impact of recent changes made by Obama
Representatives from Cuba and the United States met today in Havana to discuss the impact and limitations of recent measures taken by the U.S. government modifying certain aspects of the blockade. The encounter also saw the participation of U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, who arrived in Cuba, yesterday, October 6, on a work visit to the country.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce visits Port of Mariel
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker arrived in Havana yesterday and toured the Mariel container terminal and new facilities there, including warehouses and logistical support. Pritzker was interested in port conditions, the type of equipment used and services available, according to Ana Teresa Igarza, director of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), who spoke with the press.

First Vice President meets with senior UN official
Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel, received Helen Clark, administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), on a work visit to the island.
According to Prensa Latina, during the meeting Clark expressed her pleasure to be accompanying Cuba in the process of updating its economic model and reiterated the UNDP’s willingness to continue offering all possible support to the island in the sphere of cooperation.

Díaz-Canel receives the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates
The First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, who is on an official visit to the island, on Monday afternoon. Both authorities ratified the good state of bilateral relations and the possibilities of cooperation in the economic, commercial and financial sectors. They also discussed other issues of interest on the international and regional agenda.
