silvio rodriguez“Renowned singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez has joined the International Committee mounting a campaign to advocate the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to doctors in Cuba’s Henry Reeve international medical brigade, #BrigadaHenryReeve. #NobelParaLosMédicosCubanos,” the Network in Defense of Humanity reported on the Pensando Américas website and its Twitter account.

The Cuban singer-songwriter, widely known in Latin America for his progressive, leftist positions, thus joins dozens of activists, personalities, parliamentarians and intellectuals who support the nomination of Cuban health professionals to receive the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of their solidarity and humanist work in nations around the world battling the COVID-19 epidemic.

In this regard, prominent U.S. linguist and political scientist Noam Chomsky recently stated that Cuba is the only country that has shown genuine internationalism during the crisis generated by the coronavirus.

According to established norms, nominations for recognition can only be made by parliamentarians, academics, judges in international courts, individuals who have received the prize and active or retired members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and must be submitted by January 31 each year.
