Raúl and Díaz-Canel receive Evo Morales on his way to New York

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Raúl Castro, and President Miguel Díaz-Canel received Bolivia’s President, Evo Morales, Sunday evening, during a stopover in Havana on his way to New York, where he will participate in the high level segment of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, as reported on the Cuban Presidency’s twitter account.

raul canel evoCuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla also arrived in New York on Saturday, leading the delegation that will participate in the UN General Assembly, according to cubaminrex.cu.The Cuban delegation includes Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo; the ministry’s director general for the United States, Carlos Fernández de Cossío; Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, alternate permanent representative and charge d’affaires to the United Nations; and other officials from the Foreign Ministry and the UN permanent mission.

The important General Assembly session comes in the wake of the recent expulsion of two Cuban diplomats by the U.S. government.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla tweeted Cuba’s firm rejection of the slanderous accusations and unjustified measure, clearly part of the Trump administration’s aggressive escalation toward Cuba.“I categorically reject the unjustified expulsion of two members of Cuba’s permanent mission to the UN and further restrictions on the movement of diplomats and families. The imputation that they committed acts incompatible with their diplomatic status is a vulgar slander.”

The expulsion, he stated is intended to provoke a diplomatic conflict that could heighten tensions and lead to the closure of embassies.
