National survey on population aging underway

adulto mayorFrom November 1st, the National Population Aging Survey, ENEP 2017, has been underway across the country, with the aim of studying this process in Cuba, and covering a range of topics, including sociodemographic and socioeconomic conditions, health, dependence and care, and the networks of family and social support available to individuals who have already reached or are close to retirement age.

As MSc Juan Carlos Alfonso, director of the Center for Population and Development Studies (CEPDE) of the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), told Granma, interviews are being conducted with people of both sexes aged 50 and older, who are permanent residents in some 20,000 urban and rural homes in all municipalities of the country, selected at random.

Scheduled to conclude on December 15, the study is conducted by the CEPDE and the Longevity, Aging and Health Research Center (CITED) of the Ministry of Public Health.
