Fraternal encounter between Fidel and Vietnamese President

Fidel y VietnamYesterday afternoon, November 15, Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz received Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who arrived in Cuba for an official visit earlier in the day leading a high level delegation.

Fidel and Tran agreed that the visit would serve to further strengthen the historic friendship between the two peoples, and discussed their experiences with socio-economic development amidst the dangers that threaten humanity at this time, particularly climate change; armed conflicts taking place in several regions; the increasing world population; low oil prices; along with the challenge of increasing food production worldwide.

The Vietnam President conveyed affectionate greetings from his country’s party, government, and people, while expressing his great appreciation for the solidarity Cuba has shown Vietnam since the days of the U.S. invasion, as well as congratulations for the successful 7th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The leader of the Cuban Revolution recalled his visits to the sister country, his previous meetings with other Vietnamese leaders, and reaffirmed his admiration of Ho Chi Min, while also addressing experiments and work being done to produce protein-rich foods.

Fidel and Tran expressed the firm conviction that Cuba and Vietnam will triumph in the current struggle they share.
