The ninth imported case of Zika virus has been confirmed in a Cuban from the municipality of Cotorro, Havana, residing in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, who arrived in the country on April 8.
The patient began to experience symptoms on April 4, while still in Venezuela. In the following days these symptoms continued to develop, until April 8 when he arrived in Cuba, seeking medical attention at the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), where he is currently hospitalized.
On April 12, the IPK laboratory confirmed that the Real-Time PCR test for the Zika virus taken on admittance to the hospital had proven positive for the Zika virus.
