Eighth imported case of Zika virus confirmed

zikaThe eighth imported case of Zika virus has been confirmed, in a 58 year old Cuban cultural collaborator, a resident of Isabela de Sagua in the municipality of Sagua la Grande, Villa Clara province, who arrived from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on March 30.

On April 2, the patient registered fever of 37.8ºC, showing no other symptoms, and on seeking medical attention was referred to the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Hospital, where he was admitted.

On April 5, a Real-Time PCR test for the Zika virus was taken and sent to the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) laboratory on April 6, where it was confirmed that the test had proven positive for the Zika virus.

The patient remains hospitalized and is at present asymptomatic and showing signs of good health.
