Deputy Secretary of U.S. Homeland Security visits Cuba

cuba ee uu banderasOn October 27, Deputy Secretary of U.S. Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas arrived in Cuba. As part of his schedule of activities undertaken since his arrival, Mayorkas was received by Minister of the Interior Division General Carlos Fernández Gondín, with whom he held official conversations in a constructive and respectful atmosphere.

During the encounter both officials agreed on the need to put bilateral cooperation efforts into practice in order to ensure greater security for citizens from both countries and other nations.

The high-level visit is taking place in the context of efforts being made by the Cuban and U.S. governments to advance in the process toward the normalization of bilateral relations.

Mayorkas is being accompanied by Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikwoske, responsible for U.S. Customs and Border Protection as well as other senior officials from the department of Homeland Security.

During his visit Mayorkas will also participate in other activities including meetings with the Ministers of Transport and Foreign Relations.
