The five Cubans who were held in U.S. prisons for fighting terrorism stated during a visit to Nicaragua that the restoration of diplomatic relations between their country and the United States is a victory of the island. The also vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples stressed in an interview with Prensa Latina the wisdom of the generation that made the Revolution and has led it, firstly its historic leader, Fidel Castro, and President Raul Castro.

The Cuban Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez are internationally known, have complied with long sentences in U.S. prisons, for monitoring groups that organized and financed terrorist actions against the island.
With the December 17 release of Hernandez, Labañino and Guerrero, the three who were still in U.S. prisons, the chapter of a story that scholars and personalities from different fields have cataloged a great injustice, was closed.
