Cuba arouses the interest of students at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies

Cuba_JaponCharge d’affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Cuba in Japan Elizabeth Valdes-Miranda delivered a lecture entitled “Cuba: a nation of peace and a society in progress” at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the students learned about Cuba´s positions and actions regarding world peace and disarmament. They were also informed on the process of updating of the Cuban economic and social model, its motivations, main objectives, measures and projections.

After the presentation the students asked several questions about various aspects of Cuban reality: demography, culture, education, history, science and bilateral relations with Japan.

They showed special interest in the process of negotiations that is taking place for the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and United States and the continuity of the policy of blockade that for more than 50 years Washington applies to the Caribbean nation.

The presentation also contributed to stimulate students of the School of Contemporary Studies to learn Spanish language and increase their knowledge about our country.
