Cuban Foreign Minister Meets with US Senators

canciller-bruno-rguezCuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez met in Havana on Saturday with US Republican Senators Jeff Flake, Pat Robert and Susan Collins.

The meeting between the head of Cuban diplomacy and the US lawmakers was held at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.

The senators, who arrived in Cuba on Friday, visited the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) and the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute.

Flake supports the Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act of 2015, which would end legal restrictions on travels to the Caribbean island for US citizens and legal residents in the United States, and the ban on bank transactions linked to those trips.

The US senators’ visit to Cuba takes place in the context of reestablishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies in the two countries as part of normalization of bilateral relations.
