Russian Minister Considers Coup in Ukraine a Tragedy

serguei-shoigu1Ukraine is the worst tragedy in the chain of the so-called “color revolutions,” said today Russian Defense Minister Serguei Shigu when opening the 4th International Conference on Security in Moscow.

Shoigu asserted that with the purpose of making that former Soviet republic yield to their interests, Washington went too far and as a result of the breaking off of the constitutional order, the country was plunged into a civil war.

The Army General referred to the Conference in 2012, in which Russia’s representatives warned about the dangers of the expansion of these kind of coups in a “velvet disguise” around the world.

He also said the attempts to carry out the so-called Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong and the violent street protests in Venezuela are similar actions.

In reference to the Western sanctions against Russia for its rejection of the coup in Ukraine and its independent stance, Shoigu clarified that despite the attempts of isolate Moscow, the country will remain open to the world.

He highlighted the willingness of the Eurasian State to cooperate with countries of the whole world, which may be in Europe, Asia, Africa or the Americas, he stated.
