More than 60 Inmates on Strike in US Prison in Guantanamo

Washington, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) More than 60 prisoners at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, in eastern Cuba, remain on hunger strike today, six months after the beginning of the protest.

Since Last February 6, the prisoners kept fasting as a reaction to the abuses committed against them and the conditions of their detention for more than a decade, without any official charges in most cases.

Detainees reject indefinite confinement, search of their belongings and confiscation of copies of the Koran, the holy book of Muslims.

The military authorities ordered forced feeding of at least 40 prisoners in recent weeks, through nasal catheter, a practice classified as torture by the UN Human Rights Commission.

Since 2002, Washington has the detention center in the facility located on the Cuban territory against the will of the people and Government of the Caribbean island.

The chairwoman of the Intelligence Committee of the U.S. Senate, Dianne Feinstein, think that the Guantanamo prison is a massive waste of money, and the prisoners who remain there lost the hope to get out and be subjected  to a fair trial, according to the newspaper The Hill.
