Nicolas Maduro to Take Oath as Acting President of Venezuela

Caracas, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) Only few hours after the conclusion of the State funeral services of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, Executive Vice President Nicolas Maduro will be sworn in as an acting president of the South American country.

This was expressed by National Assembly President Diosdado Cabello, who explained that such decision was imposed to Maduro to call for elections within 30 days.

During a Parliament session to be held today at 7:00 pm at the Hall of Honor of the Military Academy in Fuerte Tiuna, Nicolas Maduro’s temporary inauguration will be official, as provided in Article 233 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Cabello said.

The socialist legislator stated that, as the Constitution establishes, when the absolute absence of the president takes place during the first four years of the constitutional term, a new direct and universal election should be held within a maximum period of 30 consecutive days.

Cabello also said that “always in accordance with the provisions, the Executive Vice President of the Republic should be the head of State, while the new president is elected and takes office.
