Isaac Leaves Floods and Heavy Rains in Cuba

Havana, Aug 26 (PL) Light to moderate floods and rainfall throughout Cuba are the predominant elements in Sunday”s forecasts for Tropical

Storm Isaac, which increased its strength after leaving Cuban territory.

Rains persist on Sunday in most of the country, but they will be stronger and more intense from Camagüey to Guantánamo, in the east, according to the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET).

Rains will continue in the afternoon along the central and north western coast, added the report, issued at 06:00 hours, local time (10:00 GMT), which located Isaac at about 195 kilometers east of Varadero. From 02:00 until 05:00 on Sunday, 90 millimeters of rain were reported in the towns of Petty, in Santiago de Cuba, as well as in Pinares de Mayari (59) and Guaro (64), both in Holguin province, about 800 kilometers east of Havana.

Isaac is moving northwestward at 30 kilometers per hour, and has sustained winds of 100 km/h and a pressure of 995 hectoPascal.

Isaac is the ninth named storm during the ongoing hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean, which began on 1 June and runs until November 30.

Cuba is recognized regionally and internationally for its results in the protection of lives and material resources from the impact of natural phenomena such as cyclones.
