Raúl to Medvedev: “I could not miss this celebration”

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz met Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on May 6, whom he thanked for the invitation to participate in the celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism in WWII, to be held on Saturday in this capital. The Cuban President noted that he could not miss the celebration due to the great friendship that has always united the island and Russia, “a friendship that still exists because there is a mutual admiration between our peoples.”

WHO reports drastic drop in Ebola cases

Yesterday, the World Health Organization reported that last week 18 new cases of Ebola were registered in West Africa, the lowest figure this year. According to a report on the development of the illness which has been afflicting the region since December 2013, nine cases were confirmed in both Sierra Leone and Guinea, while Liberia has maintained its rate of zero cases seen over recent weeks.

According to the reports, Plisetskaya unexpectedly passed away while preparing to travel to Lucerne, Switzerland. The Russian prima ballerina assoluta was a reference of her time. Maya Plisetskaya (Moscow, November 20, 1925 – Munich, May 3, 2015) is the most famous swan of the twentieth century, after Anna Pavlova, for whom the piece was created by Fokin in 1905. But her Dying Swan was completely different, it was not a delicate creature with broken wings, but almost an eagle, unsettled, that does not fade, does not give up slowly.

Increase in tourist arrivals to Cuba

According to Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, despite a difficult global situation, so far this year the Cuban destination has seen a 15% increase in tourist arrivals, in comparison with the same period last year. Speaking at the first event of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba2015), which opened its doors in the Hotel Meliá Jardines del Rey, the official stated that the country is experiencing a process of change in the sector and the arrival of more than 1.5 million visitors so far this year demonstrates an increase in established markets and others experiencing a preference for Cuba.

Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz arrived in the Russian capital this afternoon, May 5, to participate in activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of fascism’s defeat during WWII, on the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. Coming from Algeria where he completed a three-day official visit, Raúl was received at Vnukovo II Airport by deputy foreign minister Serguei Ryabkov and Tatiana Anódina, president of the State Aviation Committee.

Cuban Five Distinguished As Illustrious Guests in Caracas

The Cuban Five today received the Keys to the City of Caracas from Mayor Jorge Rodriguez, which qualifies them as illustrious guests. At the official welcoming ceremony in the Plaza Simon Bolivar, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, together with their families, laid a wreath at the statue of the Liberator of America.

Russian Duma President Heads Delegation to Cuba

The president of the State Russian Duma (Low Chamber) travels today to Cuba on an official visit, on occasion of the 55th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries. Naryshkin leads a delegation of parliamentarians, experts and journalists to the international conference on the Soviet and Latin American cooperation during the World War II and in contemporaneity, scheduled for May 5 at the Havana’s Hotel Nacional.
