Today, Alicia Alonso and the National Ballet of Cuba received Princess Caroline of Monaco and director of the Monte Carlo Ballet, Jean-Christophe Maillot, here for the 16th Havana International Theatre Festival. During a tour of the company’s headquarters, on Calzada 510 in the Havana neighborhood of Vedado, the visitors stopped in to watch rehearsals for the piece Tiempo de Danzón; inwhich Cuban choreographerEduardo Blanco offers a contemporary perspective on this traditional Cuban dance.

An absurd 50 year law

This is one of the most absurd laws of the blockade. A regulation which today prevents Cuba from enlisting 500 sailors a year on commercial ships. This in addition to the fact that any vessel that docks at a Cuban port must wait a minimum of 180 days before it can arrive in the U.S., which logically means that not all foreign ships are willing to travel to Cuba.

Deputy Secretary of U.S. Homeland Security visits Cuba

On October 27, Deputy Secretary of U.S. Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas arrived in Cuba. As part of his schedule of activities undertaken since his arrival, Mayorkas was received by Minister of the Interior Division General Carlos Fernández Gondín, with whom he held official conversations in a constructive and respectful atmosphere. During the encounter both officials agreed on the need to put bilateral cooperation efforts into practice in order to ensure greater security for citizens from both countries and other nations.

Italian airline expands flights to Cuba

The Italian airline Neos is considering a new flight to the central Cuban province of Villa Clara. Mid October saw the arrival of the company’s first flight to the keys – the province’s main tourist destination – located off the region’s northern coastline, reports EFE. Onboard this first flight were some 200 Milan-based tour operators and travel agents who arrived to the province’s Abel Santamaría International Airport, interested in the quality of services and variety of tourist options offered on the island’s north-eastern keys, renowned for their virtually pristine beaches.

Raúl meets with Army General Do Ba Ty

We will continue to work for the lifting of the blockade

“It is disappointing that the United States has voted against our resolution,” said Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla in a press conference following the overwhelming vote in the UN General Assembly calling for an end to the U.S. blockade of Cuba. Rodríguez described the U.S. vote as unfounded, and reiterated that, as long as the blockade continues to be strictly enforced, the General Assembly will continue condemning it.

In the early hours of October 22, 1963, the Aracelio Iglesias merchant ship arrived in Oran, Algeria’s second city, in the northwest of the country, where a column disembarked before being transported by rail in 42 open cars and 12 carriages some 80km to the fort built by the French Foreign Legion in Bedeau, near the town of Ras el Ma.
