Investment for a better future

The potential and attractions of Cuba as an investment option were emphasized yesterday, November 3, at the Havana International Trade Fair, Fihav 2015, during the presentation of the country’s updated portfolio of foreign investment projects, by Rodrigo Malmierca, president of the fair’s organizing committee. This latest version, he reported, is superior to its predecessor, containing 326 projects, 80 more than last year, the majority with pre-feasibility or feasibility studies completed. Proposals from all of the country’s provinces are included, in 12 sectors of the economy.

IN recognition of his lifetime achievements, painter, writer and critic Pedro de Oraá was awarded the 2015 National Prize for Visual Arts, granted annually by the Cuba’s National Visual Arts Council.

Fihav 2015 underway

Yesterday, November 2, Rodrigo Malmierca inaugurated the 33rd edition of the Havana International Trade Fair, Fihav 2015, with expectations that it will serve to promote exports of Cuban products and services, as well as foreign investment in the country. Ricardo Cabrisas, a Council of Ministers vice president, was also on hand for the inauguration.

Raúl sends condolences to President Putin

Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz sent heartfelt condolences to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for the loss of life caused by the crash of an Air Bus 321 aircraft flying from the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, October 31, in which 224 persons died. The Cuban President requested that his condolences be extended to families of those who perished in the tragic accident.

Manrique Larduet secures a ticket to Río 2016

The bronze medal for the high bar event was secured in fine style on November 1, by Cuba’s Manrique Larduet, who left the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, at which he was competing for the first time, with two medals.
The gymnast from Santiago de Cuba, 19, reawakened the dreams of those who follow this sport on the island, by taking the men’s all-around silver medal and securing his place at the Olympic Games in Río de Janeiro, 2016.

ETECSA and U.S. firm Sprint sign first direct roaming agreement

One of the key moments of the first day of the 33rd Havana International Trade Fair, Fihav 2015, was the signing of the first agreement between the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA) and Sprint Communications Company LP., of the United States, to provide customers of this U.S. company with the possibility of making and receiving calls and text messages and transmitting data, when using their cell phones in Cuba.

The 33rd edition of Havana’s International Trade Fair, Fihav 2015, opens its doors today and will continue through November 7, at the city’s main fairgrounds and exposition center, Expocuba. More than 70 countries have representatives participating this year, utilizing more than 20,000 square meters of exposition space for their displays.

U.S. actor and four-times Oscar nominee, Ethan Hawke, figures among the foreign personalities attending the 37th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which will present 444 films in the capital from December 3-13, 159 in the competitive selection. According to event organizers, following the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, more requests than the event could accept have arrived from the U.S.
