During the event held at the monument to the heroine of the Sierra and the underground, Teresa Amarelle, secretary general of the FMC and member of the Party Central Committee, emphasized the contributions of Celia, whose values and efforts constitute an example for Cuban girls, adolescents and women of today.

Obama calls on Congress to lift the blockade of Cuba

The President of the United States, Barack Obama, again called on Congress to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for over half a century on the island, this Tuesday, January 12. “You want to consolidate our leadership and credibility in the hemisphere? Recognize that the Cold War is over. Lift the embargo (blockade),” Obama told lawmakers from both chambers of Congress, gathered in Washington to hear the last State of the Union address of the Democratic Party leader.

The creation of the Unilever Suchel S.A. joint venture, which will operate in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), was reported yesterday during a ceremony held at this strategic location for the development of Cuba’s economy. THE Cuban men’s volleyball team will return to the Olympic Games this 2016 following a convincing 3-0 victory over Canada, during the Olympic qualifier in Edmonton. The Cubans, who in 2015 lost to the Canadian team on four occasions, in the World League and the NORCECA Championship, traveled to the northern city armed with a team combining experienced players and newcomers, which secured them a favorable outcome of 25-15, 25-21, 25-21.

Colombian government representatives headed to Cuba to resume peace talks

Colombian government spokespeople will arrive today, January 12, to Havana to resume peace talks with FARC-EP rebels, which could see greater progress made toward reaching a final agreement, reported Caracol Radio. According to President Juan Manuel Santos himself, the Colombian government intends to establish a type of permanent commission, to replace the current cyclical model, which will work continuously until a peace accord is signed.
