The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuban President Diaz-Canel sends message of unity
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Sunday called for the people’s unity in the face of destabilization attempts, and ratified the commitment to move forward despite adversity. On his official Twitter account, the president recalled a phrase from National Hero Jose Marti: ‘Men go on two sides: those who love and found, and those who hate and undo,’ and assured that Cuba ‘will continue founding.’ In another tweet, Diaz-Canel pointed out that when the people have come so far in the realization of their dreams, they cannot be stopped by violence or hatred.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights joins campaign against Cuba
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Friday described as peaceful demonstrators those detained in Cuba for their participation in acts of vandalism. Despite those violent images of robbery in stores, injuries to law enforcement officers and the overturning of patrol cars, which are circulating in the media and social networks, the Chilean-born official demanded the release of all prisoners.

Russia urged to avoid foreign meddling in Cuban affairs
The vice president of the Council of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Kosachev, highlighted today his country’s repeated call to avoid interference and external pressure on the problems Cuba faces. Speaking to Radio Sputnik, the Senate leader emphasized that most of the economic and social hardships that Cuba and its people are going through are associated with more than 60 years of the US blockade.

US media address US interference in Cuban affairs
US media on Friday addressed interventionist statements by President Joe Biden and other US officials in Cuba’s internal affairs of Cuba. The Politico newspaper noted that Biden said he considers ‘many possibilities to help Cuban citizens, while trying to find out what actions the Cuban Government would not take advantage of’. Among the actions in process, the president noted that he is weighing sending vaccines to Cuba to ‘help’ fight the increase in cases of Covid-19, and ignored the effects of the blockade on Cuba’s efforts to advance with ‘Abdala’ and four vaccine candidates.

Regular peace reigns in Cuba
The regular citizen peace is currently reigning in Cuba, as efforts are focused on fighting Covid-19 and actions are multiplied including immunizing the entire population. Institutions, hospitals, markets, shops and private businesses opened their doors as usual today. There is peace in Cuba despite campaign of hatred and lies typical of media terrorism hype, said Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Wednesday. Díaz-Canel claimed the Cuban people act with courage and with no fear to confront the July 11th destabilization plans.

Cuba: Covid-19 vaccination for children to begin in September
The sample is divided into two groups: the first made up of adolescents from 12 to 18 and the second of children from three to 11. The objective of the trial is to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of these candidates. Meanwhile, a pediatric clinical trial with Abdala candidate begins today in the province of Camagüey, with nearly 600 children and adolescents from that territory volunteering in two phases.

Havana about to complete anti-Covid-19 vaccination with ‘Abdala’
Three municipalities in the capital closed their vaccination process against Covid-19 with ‘Abdala’, as part of the strategy to immunize all inhabitants by the end of July, news media highlighted today. Health authorities are leading the process with this local product to also ensure that 60 percent of Cubans get their three doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine shots by next August.

Cuba grieves losses due to torrential rains in Germany
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez sent condolences today to the people and government of Germany for the loss of human lives, the injured and the material damage caused by recent storms and torrential rains. Through his official Twitter account, the Foreign Minister extended his condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased. According to German authorities, so far there are 19 dead and 70 people missing due to the rains and floods that hit the western part of the country.

Cuba brings 16 athletes to Tokyo Paralympic Games
Under the leadership of several-time champions Omara Durand and Lorenzo Pérez, Cuba gets 16 athletes ready for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, scheduled for August 24 to September 5. Both sprinters will carry the Cuban flag on the opening day of the important sports event with the purpose of standing in the Japanese capital to ensure its place within the first 20 nations in the general medal table.
