Nicole made landfall in Florida as a Category 1 hurricane

In the early hours of this Thursday, Hurricane Nicole made landfall south of Vero Beach, about 200 km from Miami, Florida, as a category 1, with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h. However, it has weakened to a tropical storm as it moves toward east-central Florida in the morning, according to the US National Hurricane Center. Nicole became the latest hurricane to hit Florida’s Atlantic coast in a calendar year, breaking the November 4 record set by Hurricane Yankee in 1935.

Polar cold wave will cause winter temperatures this week in the US

Some 70 million people in the United States are suffering this week from the polar cold resulting from a wave of low pressure coming from Canada and pushing cold air south. The cold air will imply low temperatures mainly in the mornings and at nights, both for the Midwest, South and East of the country. The winter in the middle of autumn has led since Monday to temperature records 15 to 25 degrees below what is normal for this time, according to the head of meteorology for Telemundo Noticias, Carlos Robles.
