Buena Vista Social Club performs at the White House

This Thursday, October 15, the legendary group Buena Vista Social Club, performed for the first time in the White House, after conquering stages around the world. The musicians received various ovations from almost 400 guests, among them President Barack Obama and Cuban Ambassador in Washington, José Cabañas, performing the same repertory which has seen them reap numerous international awards, featuring greatly relevant songs which capture the spirit of Cuba’s musical tradition.

Days of Action against the Blockade in Washington

Cuba officially has an ambassador in the United States

This Thursday, September 17, Cuban diplomat José Ramón Cabañas presented his credentials to the President of the United States, Barack Obama, to officially become the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the island to Washington in over half a century. “Exchanging ambassadors since ancient times is a sign of normality and respect among nations,” Cabañas told Granma.

Cuba presents report on the need to end the blockade

Today, September 16, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla presented, to the press, the United Nations Report 69/5, entitled “The Necessity of putting an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.” Rodríguez denounced the damage caused by this hostile policy for over five decades, which has cost the country billions, and has hampered the comprehensive development of Cuba’s children and youth.

The events are co-sponsored by IFCO/Pastors for Peace, the Institute for Policy Studies, International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity for the Peoples, National Network on Cuba and the Venceremos Brigade, with the support of parallel events in several other cities across the United States, as well as in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.
