The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Another Helms-Burton lawsuit fails
Miami federal judge James Lawrence King has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a Florida citizen, under Title III of the illegal Helms-Burton Act, against Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator which includes Cuba among its destinations. The dismissed case, one of the first filed based on the infamous Helms-Burton Act, was initiated by Javier Garcia Bengochea last year in the South Florida U.S. District Court and sought compensation on the grounds that the plaintiff had commercial property rights

Terrorism against Cuba is state policy
Two months after the terrorist Alazo Baró shot up the Cuban embassy in Washington, the complicit silence of the Trump administration, and the impunity afforded his mentors, indicate that violence will continue to be part of U.S. government policy toward Cuba. The United States government has been the main organizer and sponsor of terrorism in the world.

Morality as our banner
Once again, an attempt was made to manipulate the issue of human rights to discredit Cuba, following the same dishonest, 60-year-old prefabricated script. The double standards, political manipulation and selectivity in addressing the issue were deployed unsuccessfully, in an effort to overshadow our achievements before the world. The stage on this occasion was the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

Five days earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had received his letter from November 27 requesting that it undertake the necessary procedures before the U.S. authorities for the return of his son Elián, a survivor of the wreckage of a makeshift boat that had illegally left from Cuba. A low blow to global health

Cuba condemns terrorism and political manipulation

It is likely that the night before Martí interrupted the letter he was writing to Manuel Mercado when Bartolomé Masó arrived with his cavalry troops from Manzanilllo, who then continued on to the Vuelta Grande camp to give the horses a rest. That is why, very early, before going to La Vuelta Grande, Martí wrote what would be his last text: a note to Máximo Gómez informing him of Masó’s arrival.
