The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Raúl holds meeting with Uruguayan Foreign Minister
Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of Cuba’s Councils of Ministers and State, yesterday November 25, received Rodolfo Nin Novoa, foreign minister of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, who was making an official visit to the country. In a cordial environment, the two parties emphasized the excellent state of current bilateral relations and reiterated their disposition to continue working on implementation of the Binational Program agreed upon when Raúl visited Uruguay in March, earlier this year. They additionally discussed issues of regional and international interest.

Emir of Qatar arrives in Cuba
Emir of the state of Qatar, Sheik Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, arrived yesterday, November 22, in Cuba, the first stop of a Latin American tour which includes visits to Mexico and Venezuela. Guantánamo central to debate on world peace
Opening today in the city of Guantánamo is the 4th International Seminar on Peace and the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases, with some 200 delegates from 30 countries participating. Objectives of the gathering announced include expanding actions calling for world peace; denouncing the establishment of military bases on all continents by powerful nations; and supporting Cuba’s demand for the return of territory illegally occupied by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo.

Hemispheric Conference on the defeat of FTAA
The defeat of the infamous Free Trade Agreement of the Americas, ten years ago, will be the focus of a three-day Hemispheric Conference, opening today, November 20, at Havana’s Cojímar Convention Center. Plans for the event include the development of articulated strategies to advance the integration of Latin American and Caribbean peoples, and mobilize opposition to the imperialist counter-offensive in the region.

Air France-KLM consolidates operations in Cuba
The airline Air France-KLM projects ending the year with a 15% increase in passenger transportation, consolidating its position as the principal carrier between Cuba and Europe, Africa and Asia, reported Antoine Cros, general manager for Cuba and the Dominican Republic. During 2014, he told the press, “More than 400,000 passengers were transported, a figure which confirms our participation in the increase seen in tourism to the island, and demonstrates the positive state of relations between the company and Cuban authorities in the leisure industry and the aeronautical sector.”

Cuban musicians bring home Latin Grammys
The Septeto Santiaguero won its first Latin Grammy last night, November 19, in the category of Best Traditional Tropical Album for its CD No quiero llanto. Tributo a Los Compadres, recorded with Dominican José Alberto, “El Canario.” The 2015 awards ceremony took place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, where other winners included Calle 13 and Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez for the video clip Ojos color sol; and Alex Cuba, for Healer. Pablo Milanés was recognized for his life long contributions with an Award for Musical Excellence.

Cuban lung cancer medicine receives Innovation Award
Registered in Cuba since 2012 after being approved by the Center for State Control of Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices (Cecmed), the product shows positive results in prolonging and improving the quality of patients’ lives, and has low toxicity levels resulting in less of the unpleasant side effects associated with other necessary therapeutic procedures.

Pablo Milanés wins Latin Grammy Award
The singer-songwriter and composer Pablo Milanés, founder of the New Trova movement along with Silvio Ro dríguez and Noel Nicola, received yesterday, November 18, a Latin Grammy Awardfor Musical Excellence, given his important contributions to music. During the ceremony, held Wednesday 18, in Las Vegas, the United States, the legendary Cuban trova musician, author of 40 albums and memorable songs such as “Yolanda” and “El Bre ve espacio en que no estás,” received the accolade along with other outstanding musicians from the Latin American scene.

Cuba and U.S. sign memorandum of understanding
The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for the Conservation and Management of Protected Marine Areas is the first document regarding environmental issues, to be signed between Cuba and the U.S. since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, noted Dr. Fernando Mario González Ber múdez, first deputy minister of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).
