The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Cuba and Chad strengthen bilateral relations
”I am sure that your visit will contribute to advancing bilateral relations,” stated Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Relations, Bruno Rodrí guez on receiving his counterpart from the Republic of Chad, Moussa Faki Ma hamat, at the Ministry headquarters, October 7. Bruno Rodríguez noted that relations with Chad and the African continent are a priority for the nation, and expressed thanks for the country’s enduring solidarity and willingness to continue developing ties with the island.

Maduro demands justice for Barbados crime
The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, demanded justice for the downing of a Cubana airlines flight over the island of Barbados, on October 6, 1976.
During his television program, In Contact with Maduro, the leader honored the 73 victims of the crime, among them 24 members of the Cuban youth fencing team, who were retuning to the country after winning gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean Championships of the discipline.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce visits Port of Mariel
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker arrived in Havana yesterday and toured the Mariel container terminal and new facilities there, including warehouses and logistical support. Pritzker was interested in port conditions, the type of equipment used and services available, according to Ana Teresa Igarza, director of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), who spoke with the press.

The perpetual struggle against terrorism
As on every October 6, Havana’s Colón Cemetery fills with relatives of the victims of the 1976 terrorist bombing of the Cubana airlines flight over Barbados. Once again, they demand an end to the impunity that those responsible have enjoyed for 39 years. The date is an opportunity not only to remember those passengers, athletes and workers, who died in the attack, but all victims of terrorist acts against the island.

Díaz-Canel receives the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates
The First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, received His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, who is on an official visit to the island, on Monday afternoon. Both authorities ratified the good state of bilateral relations and the possibilities of cooperation in the economic, commercial and financial sectors. They also discussed other issues of interest on the international and regional agenda.

Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, yesterday afternoon October 5, received the honorable Dr. Rui María de Araujo, Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, who is on an official visit to Cuba. The two leaders discussed the excellent state of bilateral relations and expressed their commitment to consolidating the ties of cooperation, fundamentally in the area of health. Remembering the victims of the Barbados crime
Several secret documents written in 1976 and recently declassified by the U.S. State Department, identify the international terrorist of Cuban origin Luis Posada Carriles, now protected in the U.S., as responsible for the attack on the Cubana de Aviación flight, October 6 that year, in which all 73 people aboard were killed.
A memo sent to then Secretary of State Henry Kissinger by two senior officials of the Central Intelligence Agency, examines the allegations by the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz regarding the involvement of U.S. agencies in the downing of the aircraft.

Evo Morales: The Five are heroes of Cuba and Bolivia
After decorating Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, René González, Fernando González and Antonio Guerrero, or the Five, as they are known internationally, with the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor of the Order of Marshall Andrés de Santa Cruz and Calahumana, Morales noted that they are also heroes of Latin America and Bolivia. The important distinction was also awarded to Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio.

Laotian President arrives in Cuba
The President of the People’s Republic of Laos, Choummaly Sayasoney, accompanied by a broad delegation, arrived in Cuba yesterday, October 1, on an official visit which will extend through the 4th. Also secretary general of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the President was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra at Havana’s José Martí International Airport.
