The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Evo Morales: The Five are heroes of Cuba and Bolivia
After decorating Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, René González, Fernando González and Antonio Guerrero, or the Five, as they are known internationally, with the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor of the Order of Marshall Andrés de Santa Cruz and Calahumana, Morales noted that they are also heroes of Latin America and Bolivia. The important distinction was also awarded to Colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio.

Laotian President arrives in Cuba
The President of the People’s Republic of Laos, Choummaly Sayasoney, accompanied by a broad delegation, arrived in Cuba yesterday, October 1, on an official visit which will extend through the 4th. Also secretary general of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the President was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra at Havana’s José Martí International Airport.

U.S.-Cuba Business Council created in Washington
The U.S.-Cuba Business Council was inaugurated on September 25 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters, in Washington D.C. The body aims to foment a strategic trade relationship between the two countries, establish business sector ties and promote the identification of business opportunities for both nations, according to the Cuban Embassy in Washington’s website.
