Jamaica values relations with Cuba, says Nicholson

He was speaking at a reception to mark the 57th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution (National Day) held on Thursday at the Cuban ambassador’s St Andrew residence. The event was attended by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, Government ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, among others. The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) paid tribute to Celia Sánchez Manduley, yesterday January 11 in Havana, on the 36th anniversary of her death. During the event held at the monument to the heroine of the Sierra and the underground, Teresa Amarelle, secretary general of the FMC and member of the Party Central Committee, emphasized the contributions of Celia, whose values and efforts constitute an example for Cuban girls, adolescents and women of today.

Colombian government representatives headed to Cuba to resume peace talks

Colombian government spokespeople will arrive today, January 12, to Havana to resume peace talks with FARC-EP rebels, which could see greater progress made toward reaching a final agreement, reported Caracol Radio. According to President Juan Manuel Santos himself, the Colombian government intends to establish a type of permanent commission, to replace the current cyclical model, which will work continuously until a peace accord is signed.

A cannon salute for the Revolution and victory

In a salute to the 57th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, 21 rounds of artillery were fired from the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress in Havana, to honor the homeland’s martyrs, our courageous people and the revolutionary victory. The firing of a battery of six 122 millimeter shells M-30, by 30 cadets from the Revolutionary Armed Forces’ General Antonio Maceo School resounded in the night air to welcome a new year of challenges.
