The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

Redemption song
The song of all Cubans, yesterday of Bayamo, today the National Anthem, will always enjoy the greatest respect among the people who sing it with our heads held high and voices afire; because with it we declare our principles, intone our culture, and reaffirm our sovereignty. Among the dates key to the nation’s founding is October 20, 1868, when the Cuban soul was captured in song, when in a burst of emotion the lyrics of an anthem sounded, like a bugle.

Aleida Guevara: “Che is back again, with the shield over his arm”
When she was four years old, she saw, in the gloom of Mom’s room, Dad caressing Ernesto’s head, as if he were saying goodbye to the youngest of the children. A month after turning five, she heard Fidel Castro on television and there, while he was reading a farewell letter, she discovered her mother in tears. At the age of six, Aleida Guevara learned that “daddy”, as she says to Che, had died. October is definitely a sad month. She wears the same eyes and sometimes the smile gives her away more than the surnames.

Eusebio, the man
Eusebio Leal used to say that many, even the women who accompanied him along the way, fell in love with a character. When do men stop being simple mortals to become legendary beings?

The pride of Cubans
The greater the brilliance of his actions for the good of all, deeper is the hate of our enemies, who hope to discredit the motivation behind his efforts. I am proud to be Cuban for many reasons. One of these is to have been a contemporary of Fidel, which has allowed me to understand the origin of all the slander that our adversaries attempt to use.
