The El Paso Diary is written by José Pertierra--an attorney who represents the government of Venezuela in its request for the extradition of Luis Posada Carriles. Pertierra´s journals describe the testimony, evidence, legal skirmishes, quirks and follies of this very historic trial that features for the first time the close collaboration of the United States government with Cuban authorities to prosecute an ex CIA agent who is one of the masterminds of the fifty-year old dirty war against Cuba.

French Festival in Cuba to Screen 14 Films

The 21st French Film Festival will premiere 14 contemporary French feature films from April 11th to 22nd, said organizers of the event. The festival has scheduled more than 100 screenings during two weeks, which totals 24 productions that include three documentaries, five classic feature films and one cartoon.

Cuban and French Officials Meet

Cuba’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Marcelino Medina, held a working meeting with Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, Secretary General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. According to a statement, the meeting checked the French government’s willingness to give continuity to the progress made in the bilateral relationship, following President Francois Hollande’s visit to Havana in May 2015 and Cuban head of State Raúl Castro’s stay in Paris in February 2016.

On October 3, Director General of French company Pernod Ricard, Philippe Savinel, highlighted the success of Cuba’s Havana Club rum sales in the European nation. Savinel noted that French consumers purchased three million liters (some 330,000 cases) of the spirits last year, according to Prensa Latina.

Cuban government sends condolences following attack in France

José Ramón Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Party Central Committee and a vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, yesterday July 18, visited the French embassy in Havana to sign the condolences book opened there in the wake of an attack which occurred in the city of Nice, this past July 14, during a celebration of Bastille Day, killing 84 persons and injuring more than 200.

Cuba & France begin new chapter

Precisely at five o’clock yesterday afternoon, February 1, Cuban President Raúl Castro arrived at Élysée Palace, the French presidency, to hold official talks with his counterpart François Hollande. A battery of journalists followed him along the red carpet to the palace entry, where Hollande again embraced him and extended his hand, nine months after their meeting in Havana.
